Finding Dictionaries in the Library Catalogue To find dictionaries using the library catalogue, do a search by Subject using the standard Library of Congress Subject Headings.Standard terms used by UBC Library to show the subjects of library materials.
These terms are published in four large red volumes which can be found at the
Humanities and Social Sciences reference desk in Koerner Library.
To find a general dictionary for a language, use the format:
- [language name] - Dictionaries
For example: Polish language - DictionariesTo find dictionaries that translate from one language to another, use the format:
- [language name] - Dictionaries - [language name]
For example: Maori language - Dictionaries - EnglishTo find dictionaries that translate from one language to several languages, use the format:
- [language name] - Dictionaries - Polyglot
For example: French language - Dictionaries - PolyglotTo find a dictionary on a specific topic in another language, use the format:
- [discipline] - Dictionaries - [language name]
